2022 - Background concept design package

This animated project is based on the lively bustle of Hong Kong’s clustered night markets. Market Maze is a fantasy slice-of-life series following a young lady who owns a fish store nestled in the crooks of the market alleyways and her small daily adventures.

Style-wise, I took inspiration from indie games and pixel art - simple and round yet highly dense with set dressing, strong use of lighting and values to separate planes, and a monochromatic palette with a few accent colours.

I felt very much at home drawing and designing these backgrounds, it was pure bliss and I hope to be able to create more art like this!
